Big News! Roneel Shankar Named IVES’ General Manager
We are extremely happy to announce that as of February 2, 2024, exactly 15 years from the date he was hired, long time employee and former Operations Manager Roneel (Ron) Shankar is the new General Manager of the IVES Training Group.
“This promotion is a testament to the amazing team and support system here at IVES Training Group,” said Shankar. “The mentorship I have received from the day I started as an inside sales associate at this company has made a tremendous impact on not only my professional, but also my personal life.
I'm genuinely grateful for all the wisdom and advice I have received from everyone along the way, especially our former GM and Director of Training, Rob Vetter, who recognized that I had more to give to the company as each year passed and helped guide me on how I could be more effective with each opportunity I was presented with. I am very thankful and honored that my hard work and dedication to the company has been recognized with this promotion to General Manager.”
Former IVES General Manager, Rob Vetter, remains as the company’s Director of Training. He had this to say about Ron’s rise to GM: “Working with Ron over the past fifteen years and getting to know him as I have, this comes as absolutely no surprise at all. Incident Report: Telehandler Tips Over Top of Parking Garage, Operator Escapes.
An equipment operator escaped a potentially catastrophic accident when his telehandler tipped over the side of a parking garage in Madison, Wisconsin.
The operator was dumping snow off the top of the seven-story parking garage when the JCB 525-60 telehandler he was operating tipped forward over the side of the building's ramp. As it hung by just the front wheel of the undercarriage with the boom dangling off the side, the operator was able to escape from the rear window, according to the Madison Fire Department.
The department’s Heavy Urban Rescue Team responded to the accident at about 9:30 a.m. February 15 and found that the operator was shaken up but not hurt. He did not need medical attention.
The urban rescue team secured the telehandler with heavy-duty straps to hold it in place until it could be removed, the team reports.
Schmidt’s Auto towing company later arrived to haul the telehandler back in. To recover the telehandler, the snow-removal contractor built up a pile of snow underneath the machine to use as leverage. That enabled the towing company to pull the telehandler off the parking garage ledge and back onto the parking lot.
The garage is located at the 4800 block of Madison Yards Way. The situation was under control by about noon, the fire department reports.
The Heavy Urban Rescue Team specializes in high- and low-angle rescue, confined space rescue, trench collapse, building collapse and other emergencies that require technical assistance.

Reminder Notice: Practical Evaluation Form Orientation Video and Downloads.
In December of 2022, we released completely revised operator Practical Evaluation forms for each equipment type that had very little in common with the previous versions that had been in place for more than twenty-five years. The new forms were met with overwhelmingly positive responses from trainers across all machine types who praised their simplicity and efficiency.
At the time the new forms were released, we also released Orientation videos offering familiarization with the layout and guidance on the use of each of the three operator Practical Evaluation forms, for Forklifts, MEWPs, and Earthmovers (loaders), which are still available for viewing in the Members section of the IVES website.
Additionally, the affected pages of the equipment inserts in the Trainer’s Manual, are also still available for download. These pages include selected excerpts from Section 3, Practical Hands-On Training and all of Section 4, Practical Evaluation Methods, in its entirety.
For those of you who may be struggling with the new evaluation forms, have questions about them or just want to update your Trainer’s Manual with the most current information, by all means log on to the IVES website to view the videos and download the documents as they are extremely helpful in learning how to use the forms in such a way as to get the most out of them.

Q: If an operator gets trained on two different equipment by different trainers. Does the operator get a new operator number?
If one gets trained on a power pallet jack by a trainer, then gets trained on a forklift by a different trainer do they get 2 different operator numbers?
A: Yes, for training documentation purposes, it is best for each trainer to give separate numbers.
Q: If you have a Sit Down Counterbalance Certification and a Narrow Aisle Reach Truck Certification, can you use a Walkie Reach Truck if you familiarize yourself with the Walkie Reach Truck? Do you need further certification, or can they use their current certifications?
A: One or two different forklift certifications does not cover all the others. In this case, a walkie stacker (while similar in basic ways) is a different Class of PIT and still requires training and evaluations to show proper training has been conducted.
